  1. Pre-entry required prior to July 31st, 2018.
  2. Entries must be delivered to the York Springs Firehouse between 6-7 PM on August 24, 2018.
  3. Exhibitor must bring the opened bag of King Arthur Flour or submit a UPC label from the flour bag when he/she submits the entry.
  4. The adult category will be fruit pies (apple, peach, blueberry, cherry). Your choice of recipe.
  5. The Junior category will be (cookies or cookie bars). Your choice of recipe. One dozen cookies or cookie bars are required.
  6. All entries will be donated and auctioned.
  7. Must provide recipe with entry (preferably typed).
  8. All entries must be submitted on disposable container for judging.
  9. All entries will be judged by 3 independent judges on Taste (50 points), Overall Appearance (25 points), Texture (25 points) = 100.
  10. Failure to follow the rules may result in disqualification.
  11. King Arthur Flour or YSUMC/Rock Chapel is not responsible for replacing lost or misplaced prizes or ribbons.

Soup Cook-Off

LIMITED TO 6 – 10 ENTRANTS

Awards will be monetary and based on funds raised, so get your friends to vote for yours!

1st place receives 10% of total proceeds

2nd place receives 3% of total proceeds

3rd place receives 2% of total proceeds

Winner has full bragging rights!

1. Contestant must provide their own crock-pot

2. Each contestant must post a 5 x 7 card of ingredients or the entire recipe, contestants choice.

3. Judging of “People’s Choice” will be done by the general public by depositing their donation in a jar for each contestant’s soup tasted.

4. The contenstant who collects the most donations will be the winner.

Sampling cups and spoons will be provided.  If someone wants a bowl, that will be at the discretion of the contestant and bowls will be your responsibility.  Remember, the winner is based on donations collected.

Cake Decorating Contest

Cake Decorating Theme – Patriotic or Country Scenes
Entry Fee: $5.00
LIMITED TO 12 ENTRANTS

Open to those 12 years old and older and can be individuals, team or a family. One entry per individual, team or family will be accepted.

Entrants must be amateurs and not be employed or working in the baking or catering industry and may not have their cake decorating work on display in a commercial bakery or cake shop.

Judges Award – 3 Independent Judges will consider:

• The cake’s overall appearance (50%)

• Skill/creativity/uniqueness (25%)

• Characterization of theme (25%).

People’s Choice Award will be awarded by voting with monetary donations prior to 6 PM.

The masterpiece that raises the most funds prior to the auction or cake walk receives 10% of the funds raised prior to 6 PM. Winners will be announced during evening celebration after 6 PM.

Balance of proceeds will benefit Rock Chapel Church Maintenance and Restoration.

1. All must be edible with the exception of pillars, plates and wire/toothpicks to attach decorations to the cake layers and/or cake board. Note: The more cake, the better.

2. No buying prebaked sheet cakes and decoration. All cake entries must solely be the work of the entrant.

3. Use of cupcakes is acceptable.

4. Contestants will have a 24” x 24” table area for display. Height limit is 2 ft (24”) from table. No electricity, generators, running water, fog, bubbles or flammable items are allowed.

5. Setup will be at the York Springs Fire Hall starting at 10 AM and must be completed and on display by 11 AM on August 25, 2018.

6. Contestants must provide a 4 x 6 card with the following information included:

a. Name of Design
b. Description of cake to include: type of cake, filling (if applicable), frosting, etc.
c. Entrant’s assigned entry number

7. All cakes must be donated following the contest and will auctioned off or used in a cake walk.

Pie Eating Competition

Be the fastest person to eat an entire pie, including the crust.

TWO CONTESTS /  6 – 8 CONTESTANTS

10 years & younger  •  11 years & older

  • Hands behind your back unless getting a drink of water.
  • Contestants must eat an entire pie, including the crust.
  • Stand up, when you think you are done. The judge will be there to decide.
  • Keep eating until the judge declares 1st and 2nd place winners.
  • Any visible signs of sickness will cause disqualification at the judge’s discretion.
  • A completed registration form with acknowledgment of the waiver must be signed by all contestants prior to the start of each contest. Children under 18 years of age will require parent or guardian present and must also have a parent or guardian’s signature on their registration form.

Watermelon Eating

Be the fastest person to eat a wedge/slice of watermelon down to the rind! 

Open to anyone 10 years of age or older.

Contestant seating is limited.

  • Contestants must not touch/eat any watermelon until the starting signal is given.
  • Contestants must place their hands behind their backs while eating the watermelon.
  • All of the watermelon on the contestant’s plate must be consumed and not regurgitated or spit up prior to the completion of the contest (this will result in ejection from the contest).
  • If seed spitting is required, it shall be done in a straight-forward manner. Seeds discharged in any direction or onto other competitor’s slice will be ground for immediate disqualification.
  • Any complaint relative to size of melon slice must be lodged with judge prior to start of heat.
  • Contestants must be 10 years old or older. Any contestant under the age of 18 must have parental permission/signature on the waiver and a parent on-site for the contest.

Completion of watermelon to be decided by judge(s), not the contestant.  Judge(s) will be on hand to assure adherence to the contest rules and to time constraints.  Decision of judges shall be final and un-revocable.  In case of ties, a second heat shall be ordered.
